Fresh strawberries, hulled and halved

Method
Blend strawberries and water
PT1MIn a blender, combine the hulled strawberries and 2 cups (480 ml) of the cold water. Blend on high until completely smooth, about 1 minute.
Strain the mixture
PT2MPour the strawberry puree through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, using a spoon to press the liquid through. Discard the solids.
Add remaining water and sweeten
PT2MStir in the remaining 3 cups (720 ml) of cold water. Add sugar to taste, starting with 1/4 cup, and stir until dissolved. Add lime juice if using.
Chill and serve
PT5MRefrigerate the agua fresca until cold, at least 30 minutes. Serve over ice, garnished with mint leaves if desired.
