Traditional Russian Cranberry Mors
Original name: Mors with Cranberries

About this dish
Mors is a classic Russian berry drink that has been enjoyed for centuries, especially during the cold winter months when fresh berries are scarce. This tart and refreshing cranberry mors is made from simple ingredients and is perfect for boosting immunity or quenching your thirst.
Traditionally served at room temperature or slightly chilled, it’s a staple of Russian households and a wonderful alternative to sugary sodas. The deep ruby color and vibrant flavor capture the essence of wild Russian berries.

Method
Prepare the cranberries
5 minutesRinse fresh or frozen cranberries under cold water. Place them in a large saucepan and lightly crush using a potato masher or wooden spoon to release some juice.
Simmer the berries
10 minutesAdd water and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low, add cinnamon stick (if using), and let simmer for 10 minutes. The cranberries will soften and burst.
Strain the liquid
5 minutesRemove from heat. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean pitcher. Use the back of a spoon to press the berries to extract all liquid. Discard the solids.
Sweeten and season
3 minutesWhile the liquid is still warm, stir in honey and sugar until fully dissolved. Add lemon juice to brighten the flavor. Taste and adjust sweetness as desired.
Chill and serve
0 minutesAllow the mors to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours. Serve over ice or at room temperature, garnished with fresh mint and cranberries if desired.

Serving suggestions
- Serve chilled in tall glasses over ice cubes. Garnish with fresh cranberries and a sprig of mint. Mors pairs wonderfully with blini or puff pastries, or simply on its own as a refreshing afternoon drink.
